Doctor of Economics, Full Professor at the UCM, Former President of the European Parliament, Former State Secretary of Finance (Spain), Former Minister of Public Constructions, Transport and Environment (Spain).  Currently is the Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Development and also chairs the Global Progressive Forum, a think tank for a reform of globalisation based on the universal values of justice, peace, security, solidarity, freedom, democracy, and equality. During his term of office, as President of the European Parliament (EP), the house succeeded in integrating Members from the new Member States. The EP passed from 626 to 785 members, from 11 to 20 official languages. Also, and perhaps more important, during his term the EP strengthened its political role in the appointment of the Commission (Buttiglione affair) and became a more important legislative actor, reaching agreement on important legislative acts as the services directive, REACH... In addition to that Mr. Borrell personally engaged himself in resolving an issue which had been dormant for 30 years which was threatening the public image of the EP, the Statute of Members, which the invaluable help of Primer Minister Juncker. During one year he chaired the Euro-Mediterranean Assembly, where members of parliaments from both sides of the Mediterranean practised dialogue between civilisations rather than simply preaching it. Moreover, he impulse the creation of the Euro-Latinamerican Assembly (EuroLat). Last but not least, during his term in office as President, he visited numerous countries, in particular, India, China, the most important Latin American countries (Brasil, Chile, Colombia, etc),  Africa (Nigeria, Mali, Egypt, Tunisia, etc), bringing the voices of the European citizen's around the world. Together with Tony Blair and Jose Manuel Barroso, he signed up to the 'White Band' campaign in token of our solidarity with Africa, putting into the frontline the needed action towards this continent. Last July, Mr. Borrell led the delegation of the EP Development Committee that visited Darfur. He is now also member of the Parliament's delegation to China.

He is a Professor of Moral Philosophy the Complutense University, Director of the Iberoamerican Center for Science, Technology and Society (CICTES)and Vice-President of the FIAP. He currently coordinates an international project for developing an Iberoamerican Digital Citizenship with the participation of several Spanish, Brazilian and Bolivian universities. He was awarded the Fundesco Prize in 1993 for his book Sociedad informatizada, ¿sociedad deshumanizada? (Computerized Society, Dehumanized Society?).

He is a Professor of Moral Philosophy the Complutense University, Director of the Iberoamerican Center for Science, Technology and Society (CICTES)and Vice-President of the FIAP. Ph.D. in Philosophy and Sciences of Education (Complutense University), M.S. in Science and Technology Studies (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), and M.S. in Computer Science (Pontifical University of Salamanca). He has been a Visiting Professor in several universities, including among others University of Deusto, University of the Basque Country, U. Carlos III University (Spain), Pontifical University of Minas Gerais and Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil). He has been also Director the of Graduate Courses on Science, Technology and Society at the Complutense University. He currently coordinates an international project for developing an Iberoamerican Digital Citizenship with the participation of several Spanish, Brazilian and Bolivian universities. He was awarded the Fundesco Prize in 1993 for his book Sociedad informatizada, ¿sociedad deshumanizada? (Computerized Society, Dehumanized Society?).

Carla Carmona Escalera | UNIVERSITY OF SEVILLA

Ph.D. in Philosophy (2010), University of Sevilla (Spain). Her doctoral dissertation was on the ethical and formal relationships between Egon Schiele's pictorial oeuvre and Ludwig Wittgenstein's philosophy. She currently works on aesthetics from a Wittgensteinian perspective and is particularly interested in its application. She is editor of the journal Egon Schiele Jahrbuch (ESJB), that publishes current research articles, timely reviews of books and exhibitions as well as special issues on the artistic practice of Egon Schiele and on the Fin-de-siècle Vienna. She is the current dance critic of the Spanish newspaper Diario de Sevilla. She combines her work in philosophy with her own artistic practice.

Holding a Doctorate Degree, is a permanent Professor in the Department of Social Psychology in the Faculty of Politics and Sociology of Universidad Complutense de Madrid university. He is also a member of the Seminary of Oral and Graphic Sources (Seminario de Fuentes Orales y Gráficas-SFOG) offered by the Distance Learning National Public University (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia- UNED) as well as Professor and Coordinator of the Post-Graduate CoursesThe Contemporary Magreb. Pablo Huerga Melcón | UNIVERSITY OF OVIEDO

He has published several books and articles about History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, Philosophy of Culture and Education. He was awarded the extraordinary Price of University degree in 1991, and the Letras Asturianas Prize in 2008 for his book El fin de la educación. Ensayo de una filosofía materialista de la educación. He belongs to the Investigation Proyect “Theoria” of the Complutense University. 

Allan Janik | THE BRENNER ARCHIVES RESEARCH INSTITUTE, INNSBRUCK UNIVERSITY

Allan Janik was born on Chicopee Massachusetts in 1941. He studied philosophy and classics at St Anselm College, received his M.A. in philosophy from Villanova University, where he began his studies in Wittgenstein's philosophy with a thesis on Schopenhauer and the early Wittgenstein, and was awarded a Ph. D. in History of Ideas from Brandeis in 1971. He retired as research fellow of the Brenner Archives at the University Innsbruck in 2006 but remains adjunct professor of philosophy at the University of Vienna as well as adjunct professor in the “Skill and Technology” PhD program at Stockholm's Royal Institute of Technology.He is the author of numerous articles and reviews in various Swedish, Dutch, German, Norwegian and French journals and anthologies. His nine contributions to Bo Göranzon's six-volume series "Skill and Technology" (Springer, London) constitute the largest contribution by a single author. Since 1994 he has been a citizen of Austria as well as the USA. He has organized numerous research projects on and around the life and work of Ludwig Wittgenstein. He currently has grants from the Austrian Science Foundation to produce a critical electronic edition of the works of the Viennese philosopher Otto Weininger as well as to study the process of skill formation in acting (in co-operation with Vienna’s Max Reinhardt Seminar) and a critical electronic edition of Wittgenstein’s Culture and Value. He is consultant to the Swedish National Defence College’s research project on Killing, Death and Military Competence and has been named conseiller scientifique of La Fondation pour l’innovation politique (Paris).

Antonio Lafuente | SPANISH NATIONAL RESEARCH COUNCIL, CSIC-MADRID

PH. D. In Physics and Scientific Researcher (1987) at the Institute of History of Science at the CSIC. From 1989 to 1990 was Visiting Scholar at Berkeley University, Spain. Giomar Salvat Martínrey | REY JUAN CARLOS UNIVERSITY, MADRID

Ph.D. in Information Sciences and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, both from the Complutense University of Madrid. She has practiced journalism in printed media like Informaciones, La Gaceta de los Negocios, El Sol (Sun newspaper), among others. As a teacher she has worked at the European University of Madrid for more than a decade in the Faculty of Communication, teaching various subjects related to technologies in the field of information in Journalism, Advertising, Audiovisual Communication, Fine Arts and dual degrees in Business Administration. At the European University of Madrid she was professor of the Ph.D. programme between 1999 and 2005, and was part of the Department of Publications and Scientific Exchange during a decade, where she was an editor. She is currently a professor in the Faculty of Communication, Department of Communication I, at the Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid, where she teaches various subjects related to new technologies: Technology of written information, Design of journalistic information, and New technologies and Information Society. She has participated in several R&D projects and currently is part of the project Las políticas de impulso a la sociedad de la Información en España (Policies promoting the information society policies in Spain) financed by the Ministry of Education and Science, directed by Marcial Murciano Martínez. She is the author of articles in journals such as Telos, Estudios sobre el mensaje periodístico (Studies on the journalistic message), Nómadas (Nomads), Alaic, Cuadernos de documentación multimedia (Papers on multimedia documentation), among others. He is a professor at the Universidad Austral de Chile. He graduated in Law from the University of Valladolid, and Ph.D. degree from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Diploma in Constitutional Law and Political Science by the Center for Constitutional Studies in Madrid. He has taught in various public and private institutions .
