Abstract
This course is about the
identity and difference of the Mediterranean culture in the context of, and
by contrast with, the European culture in general. The main issue consists
in showing that the European culture has been circulating in a similar way,
but with particular characteristics, in its different geographic and historic
scenes. This identity/difference is its fundamental aspect, which makes it
a paradigmatic ambit of the multiculturalism. In this sense, the Euro Mediterranean
culture could serve as perfect testing field to our contemporary world, where
the recognizing of the citizen rights has to conceive with equal respect to
the different traditions.

Course Objectives
The objectives of this course
will be the analysis of the relationships between the conception and material
production of cultures. This will be developed in three main areas:
1. Knowledge and ideology: construction of the Euro Mediterranean subjectivity
and of its social effects, with special attention to the coexistence problems
between cultures and acknowledge and exclusion phenomena.
2. Ethics and customs: the practices and ways of life in the Euro Mediterranean
ambit, mainly the interrelationship mechanisms between the different axiological
systems.
3. Aesthetic and representation: raising and developing of the historic
self–knowledge forms, as they appear in their artistic products in the Euro
Mediterranean scene.

Programmatic Contents
The course consists in three
teaching units. The main idea is that the Euro Mediterranean culture contains
peculiar aspects that make it especially privileged to the constitution of
