CAHAIRMAN OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT'S COMMITTEE ON DEVELOPMENT
Doctor of Economics, Full Professor at the UCM, Former President of the European Parliament, Former State Secretary of Finance (Spain), Former Minister of Public Constructions, Transport and Environment (Spain).  Currently is the Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Development and also chairs the Global Progressive Forum, a think tank for a reform of globalisation based on the universal values of justice, peace, security, solidarity, freedom, democracy, and equality. During his term of office, as President of the European Parliament (EP), the house succeeded in integrating Members from the new Member States. The EP passed from 626 to 785 members, from 11 to 20 official languages. Also, and perhaps more important, during his term the EP strengthened its political role in the appointment of the Commission (Buttiglione affair) and became a more important legislative actor, reaching agreement on important legislative acts as the services directive, REACH... In addition to that Mr. Borrell personally engaged himself in resolving an issue which had been dormant for 30 years which was threatening the public image of the EP, the Statute of Members, which the invaluable help of Primer Minister Juncker. During one year he chaired the Euro-Mediterranean Assembly, where members of parliaments from both sides of the Mediterranean practised dialogue between civilisations rather than simply preaching it. Moreover, he impulse the creation of the Euro-Latinamerican Assembly (EuroLat). Last but not least, during his term in office as President, he visited numerous countries, in particular, India, China, the most important Latin American countries (Brasil, Chile, Colombia, etc),  Africa (Nigeria, Mali, Egypt, Tunisia, etc), bringing the voices of the European citizen's around the world. Together with Tony Blair and Jose Manuel Barroso, he signed up to the 'White Band' campaign in token of our solidarity with Africa, putting into the frontline the needed action towards this continent. Last July, Mr. Borrell led the delegation of the EP Development Committee that visited Darfur. He is now also member of the Parliament's delegation to China.

Javier BustamanteCOMPLUTENSE UNIVERSITY OF MADRID
He is a Professor of Moral Philosophy the Complutense University, Director of the Iberoamerican Center for Science, Technology and Society (CICTES)and Vice-President of the FIAP. Ph.D. in Philosophy and Sciences of Education (Complutense University), M.S. in Science and Technology Studies (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), and M.S. in Computer Science (Pontifical University of Salamanca). He has been a Visiting Professor in several universities, including among others University of Deusto, University of the Basque Country, U. Carlos III University (Spain), Pontifical University of Minas Gerais and Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Brazil). He has been also Director the of Graduate Courses on Science, Technology and Society at the Complutense University. He currently coordinates an international project for developing an Iberoamerican Digital Citizenship with the participation of several Spanish, Brazilian and Bolivian universities. He was awarded the Fundesco Prize in 1993 for his book Sociedad informatizada, ¿sociedad deshumanizada? (Computerized Society, Dehumanized Society?).

Athena Charalamboglou COMPLUTENSE UNIVERSITY OF MADRID
Studied History at the Ionian University (Corfu, Greece), carried out postgraduate studies (Historical Materialism and Critical Theory) at Complutense University of Madrid in Political Sciences and Sociology. She is currently a PhD candidate in Political Science (UCM) and member of Theoria - Complutense University Research Group. Her main research interest is focused on socioeconomic socialist policies in Southern Europe.

Antonio Ventura Díaz Díaz | EUROPEAN ACADEMY OF YUSTE FOUNDATION
Doctor
of Psychology and attached to executive Civil Service positions. Secretary General of Down Spain. Lecturer of the Gerontology Master’s Studies at the University of Salamanca and Member of the Executive Council of the Spanish Federation of Foundations. He has been President of CERMI Extremadura (The Spanish National Council of Disabled Representatives in Extremadura), President of the Federation of Popular Universities in Extremadura and has held several responsible positions at the Regional Civil Service, such as Vice-president of Extremadura’s autonomous regional government (1989-1993), among others. He is, at present, Director of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation. Lecturer at several Universities in Spain, Europe, Latin America and the United States.  Among other publications, we can mention his outstanding work: “Construcción psicológica de la Identidad Regional. Tópicos y estereotipos. El referente de Extremadura” (Psychological construction of the regional identity. Stereotypes and clichés. Extremadura as a reference). He has received several awards and distinctions, among which we can highlight the “Encomienda de la Orden del Mérito Civil” (High recognition of the Order of Civil Merit), bestowed on him by H. M. King Juan Carlos I, the “Encomienda del Rey Leopoldo” (Order of King Leopold), conferred by H. M. King Albert of Belgium, the award “Extremeño de HOY” (Extremaduran of Today, given by the newspaper Hoy) and other recognitions…

She lectures on the Israeli-Arab-Palestinian Conflict as Invited Professor at the Instituto General Gutiérrez Mellado de Investigación sobre la Paz, la Seguridad y la Defensa (Madrid) and has been Visiting Scholar at the Oxford University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Harvard University. Her research interests and publications have concerned issues of history of poverty and social welfare and history of political and social thought. During the last decade her research has been mainly focussed on the ideology, institutions and social movements in the nation-building processes in Israel and Palestine.  Among her publications are "¿Jano o cabeza de Medusa? Simon Mercieca | UNIVERSITY OF MALTA
DIRECTOR OR THE MEDITERRANEAN INSTITUTE
French-trained historian who has specialised in demographic and behavioural history. He teaches aspects of early modern Mediterranean history at the University of Malta and is also the Director of the Mediterranean Institute at the same University. He also teaches cultural industries at the Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis in France. He is the director of the Mediterranean Institute and has published extensively both in Malta and abroad. Amongst his numerous publications, there are a number of papers and books related to maritime topics. The European Science Foundation appointed Dr. Mercieca chairman of the expert panel history whose duty is to grade European and world history journals.

He is currently working on a research project on the transformation of educational work and organization at Humboldt University where he is also preparing a dissertation on the economization of pedagogical organizations. His areas of interest are sociology of organizations, sociological theory and questions of knowledge, education and consulting.
